Hair accessories: The Coolest Ones to Try This Summer

This summer, when it comes to hair accessories, more is more—at least that’s what fashion girls have said. Our favorite style influencers are embracing hair accessories fiercely this season. From pearl slides to headscarves, there’s no limit in adorning your hair. Need some inspiration? These are the biggest accessory trends we’ve seen everywhere on the ‘gram. Try your favorite or mix them up—there are no rules.

This summer, these sweetly nostalgic and slightly unassuming hair accessories from the ’90s are making a MAJOR comeback. I’m talking about hair clips. The old-school hair staple is all over Instagram, holding back the hair of bloggers, famous hairstylists, and celebrities. Trend-setters like Kendall Jenner, Ariana Grande, Ashley Graham, and Winnie Harlow have posted photos of themselves wearing their favorite clips. Each one—whether it’s a subtle French-girl barrette or a slim and sleek metallic fastener—is perfectly ‘90s chic.

Headscarves are so incredibly chic and versatile, aren’t they? You can tie them whimsically around your head, or style them traditionally for a retro, effortlessly cool take. Either way, they are assured to elevate any outfit and make you look like you walked straight out of a ’90 issue of French Vogue.

barrettes

Pearl hair clips and barrettes are possibly the trendiest and most famous of the bunch, popping up in stores, and Insta feeds everywhere. We like this densely studded barrette with chic little pearls from Urban Outfitters, which is equal part retro and futuristic. Make them oversize and use them to add dimension to your down ‘do.

This could be my absolute favorite trend. Logo mania is real, and fashion would be nothing without it. “Chanel” statement pearl barrettes were used this summer instead of ribbons to tie hair back, and honor the brand after the passing of Karl Lagerfeld. Along with ‘Chanel’, ‘Damn’ and ‘Feelings’ varieties, you can also opt for others that say ‘Vibes,’ ‘Drippin,’ ‘Boss,’ ‘Glam,’ and ‘Icon’—the latter of which is our personal favorite. They’re all in the same font, so you can mix and match. Rest assured you won’t be able to find a more eye-catching hair accessory anywhere.

This trend we did not see coming: the return of hair bows. Everyone from celebrities, models, and even royalty are enhancing their updos with long strands of satin, velvet, and grosgrain fabric. But this time, we see an influx in vibrant hues and textures. Ribbons are a super chic way to add dimension to ponytails, topknots, or low-slung buns. The best part here is that this trend is super versatile, and everyone can nail this vibe beautifully. It’s also super budget-friendly. You don’t need to spend a lot on super fancy, designer-made bows: Next time you go shopping for perfume, makeup, or clothes, keep the ribbon they wrap your purchase with to adorn your hair.

headbands

Summer 2019’s headbands are oversize and kind of padded. The most fashionable way to wear a headband is unfortunately also the least practical one. If you want to adopt this trend for its aesthetic, and you don’t mind still getting hair in your face, then definitely pick up one of these headbands and plot it right on top of your head, as the summer hair accessory trend dictates. Baby pink is a favorite choice for many, but black and nude are also coming strong (you can rock any color you like, though). Keep it simple or opt for an embellished headband to achieve the wow factor.
